In Virginia, the Chesapeake Bay Preservation Act requires septic tank cleaning every 3–5 years. If your system experiences higher than normal use, cleaning should increase to every 3 years. If so, the pump chamber should be cleaned every other time the septic tank is serviced.

If your septic tank is equipped with an effluent filter, we recommend cleaning this component every six months.
